Bio
what can I say about myself?

I am a relic. Not that I am that old, but I first become active with the scene of computers since I was 11 which was over 25 years ago. The first OS I mastered was RSTS/E and at one time even played with an Altair S100 Bus machine. I was heavily involved with the H/P community in the 80's. Knew quite a few of the big names of the time (and still do). Ran a BBS called Organized Hallucination Manufacturing(OHM) in the 203 area code in the late 80s - early 90s. Played on Telenet, and Tymnet while the internet was still known as R&DNET, used to chat on IRC before http was invented.

Self taught in most areas although considering going to school for a degree in biophysics. Fairly fluent in the areas of Philosophy, Physics, Mathematics, Literature, Astronomy, History, Psychology, and whatever interests me at the time.

In my present incarnation, I am a sysadmin at MIT, I get lots of cool geek stuff to do and I get paid for it. Its an odd world.

I am not just a geek, but I have developed people skills as well. I drove cab for a number of years (I swore off geek stuff until I could no longer deny the inner geek in me) in both the Northeast and in San Diego (which is my hometown). I really do enjoy people and would like to think I am as comfortable talking to a fellow biot as I would interface to an old IBM keyboard. (or behind the wheel of a car for that matter). I have a pretty well developed sense of humor, and in general think the relationships we build with our friends and family are the most important things we do in life.

I am agnostic, I have no definite idea of what happens after here, so I would like to stay here as long as possible. I enjoy it.

I have had a number of relationships through the years. But, I would say they have left a bittersweet aftertaste. No one's fault, just not compatible. Never was married, but I do have an 17 year old daughter who I love more than just about anything, and who takes after me more and more every day. Being a single Dad has been one of those good things in life that has been worth every moment of sacrifice.

I tend to dip a bit heavier on the reading side I enjoy Marquez, Hemingway ,Beckett, Mann, Hesse, and Pynchon in the fiction area, and Jaynes, and Campbell are amongst the most prominent as far as non fiction influences go. I really enjoy movies, and love to watch whatever good stuff I can steal from the birds in the sky.

I am also thrown off by my age, I don't feel what I thought 40 would be like. I have always been myself, and for some reason I don't feel old. But I try to keep myself active, and I am recently recovering from a torn medial meniscus. However I don't want slow down. I still love going out biking and hiking. I don't smoke, rarely drink, but never to excess.

I have been many things, been involved in many scenes, and have lived a fairly eclectic life. I have noticed I need to censor this Bio a bit, this is because the handle I use here is somewhat tied to my professional life. I really should have been a bit more forward thinking recently.
